SOU Opening Events

(Ashland, Ore.) —Fall classes have not yet begun at Southern Oregon University, but a full slate of opening events is planned for new and returning students in coming days.
Beginning with Move In Day Thursday, Sept. 24 and culminating with the second annual “SOU Loves Ashland” event Sunday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., students will have the opportunity to meet fellow students, faculty, staff, and community members and make personal connections before classes begin.
During Move In Day, students, student organizations, staff, faculty, and alumni demonstrate their Raider pride by welcoming SOU students to the residence halls and volunteering to help incoming students move into their new homes.
Now in its second year, SOU Loves Ashland is designed to orient new students to the community. Leaving from campus at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, students will walk through Ashland and meet in Lithia Park for a barbeque. Students are encouraged to enter participating businesses and explore all that the community has to offer.
Other highlights of the week’s opening events include a parent and family farewell breakfast, a home football game vs. Montana State, and a shopping spree at Fred Meyer during which exclusive access to the store will be granted to SOU students from 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 to 1 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27.
Fall term classes begin Monday, Sept. 28.
