SOU Theatre Students Recognized for Stage Management
(Ashland, Ore.) Mary Hunter, Director of the Yale School of Drama Master in Fine Arts (MFA) program in Stage Management, has notified Southern Oregon University (SOU) student Robert Chikar that he will be one of four students in the nation accepted into the program this year.
Chikar, currently stage managing the SOU Theatre Arts production of “King Lear,” will receive full tuition remission. His assistantship with Yale Rep will allow him to work with leading directors, designers and performers from around the world.
SOU Theater Arts senior Kim Freimoeller is the winner of the Kennedy Center/ American College Theater Festival (KC/ACTF) Region 7 award for excellence in Stage Management for her work on last term’s production of “A Streetcar Named Desire.” Freimoeller will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. in April to attend the week-long national conference of ACTF. There she will attend workshops and career development seminars presented by leading industry professionals.
“I am delighted for both Rob and Kim,” says SOU Performing Arts Department Chair Noel Koran. “They are fully deserving of their respective honors and the national scope of the recognition once again highlights the excellence of education that all of our students here at SOU are receiving.”
