SOU’s MBA Program Improves Performance in National Exam

(Ashland, Ore.) Masters in Business Administration (MBA) students at Southern Oregon University ranked in the top 10% on the MBA Major Field Test (MFT) administered recently at 130 universities in the United States.  It was a marked improvement over a top 25% performance just a few months ago by another group of SOU MBA students.

“We made adjustments to the curriculum after the winter term test, and the changes paid off immediately,” says SOU MBA Coordinator Donna Lane.  “Our students are successful because they have close contact with faculty who have years of practical business experience to back up the theory they teach in the classroom.”
The MBA MFT is the only comprehensive national assessment for MBA program evaluation of its kind. It consists of 124 questions, half of which are based on short case-study scenarios. Most of the questions require knowledge of specific information drawn from marketing, management, finance and managerial accounting, or a combination of all disciplines.
“The SOU School of Business cohort model also contributes to student success by building cohesiveness and teamwork,” says Lane. “As a result, our MBA students learn a lot from each other, and responsibility to the team becomes a strong motivator to learn, perform and complete the program.”
Southern Oregon University offers two MBA programs. The full-time program is weekday evenings at the SOU Ashland campus and can be completed in one calendar year. The part-time program is Saturdays at the RCC/SOU Higher Education Center in Medford and can be completed in 18-21 months.
Both MBA programs are holding open houses in August. The Tuesday, August 23, open house will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of Central Hall on the SOU Ashland campus, 1250 Siskiyou Boulevard. The Thursday, August 25, open house will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the RCC/SOU Higher Education Center, 101 South Bartlett Street, Medford.
