Thinking about a career in nursing? SOU presents a compelling opportunity. Fiona Mattson of Sacramento, CA discovered this as she began comparing nursing programs in her home state and found they were all impacted. Despite the ongoing need for trained nurses, the cuts to education in California are forcing enrollment caps that make it especially hard for new students to get admitted let alone receive some kind of financial aid.
At SOU students like Fiona enroll in the pre-nursing program and later apply directly to the OHSU* nursing program on the SOU campus. The advantages are students get to experience the faculty, life on campus, the town of Ashland, and most importantly the challenges of pursuing a nursing degree before committing to a nursing program.
I came here because it was easier to get in and the success statistics were better. SOU is small enough to offer student support resources I wouldn’t get at the larger California schools. Also the Library is nice!
