A Video Postcard from Crater Lake

Crater Lake National Park is only 90 miles from the SOU Campus.

The Crater Lake Science and Learning Center sits just below the rim of Crater Lake. It is operated jointly by the National Park Service, the Oregon Institute of Technology and Southern Oregon University. The facilities include recently refurbished historic buildings at the Headquarters. The program serves teachers and students from the region providing instruction and interpretation primarily in the summer and fall. The program works closely with Park interpreters. There are opportunities for SOU graduate students to work in these programs for internship credit. Learn more about our Environmental Education program here.

Even in late August you’ll still find snow in the darker crooks and crevices, but the bright clear-blue-sky days warm the surreal blue surface of the lake. On those warm days hikers make the arduous trip down the “Cleetwood trail” to the boat ramp and small swimming beach.

However, as of June 24, winter had not yet departed.
