For those who appreciate maps, here is a handy guide to the sections of the soon-to-be-live new SOU homepage. Click anywhere on the graphic below to download a fairly large PDF.
Looking for Inspiration?

If you’ve ever wanted to see what other schools were up to with their websites EduStyle is the first place to look. The EduStyle site showcases hundreds of higher ed websites from around the country and, increasingly, the world. There’s also a pretty lively forum for sharing observations and, of course, site ratings.
Reforming a Publish Users Group
Thanks to all who came to today’s Publish meeting. Much was discussed and I for one, was really happy to hear pretty good feedback mixed in with the trepidatious reactions.
Here are the important points:
- Barring any unforeseen disasters, the new look will roll out on June 6
- This will not create increased workload for Publish users
- Marketing & IT will attempt to rekindle a Publish User Group and have that group meet regularly. Once per term minimum, possibly once per month assuming we can build an agenda (see item 5)
- This blog will be the central spot for information (and will be open for all who care to contribute)
- We (marketing & IT) will try to solicit feedback from users before creating an agenda for the PUG Meeting
Did i miss anything? By all means use the comment form.
And don’t forget about the website feedback form.
Open Sessions Announced
Come to one of our open website preview sessions and be among the first to see the new look of the SOU website… and provide feedback.
We’ve got three sessions planned… one is bound to fit your schedule.
- Tuesday, May 24th – 9 – 10 am in the east PC lab
- Wednesday, May 25th, 1-2 in the west PC lab
- Thursday, May 26th, 4-5 in the east PC lab
Sticking with Publish…for now
The 90/10 plan has been put on temporary hold. There’s simply too much going on with Google and Moodle and some other behind-the-scenes stuff. Adding a new CMS, even a user-friendly one such as WordPress, is simply not practical at this moment.
So, for now, we’ll be sticking with Publish as the primary content management system.
While from this could be called a setback, staying with Publish a bit longer does have advantages.
- It’s the devil we know
- The redesigned look can be applied to Publish with acceptable results
- No learning curve for users
- The new look will add some features for those interested in trying them
