Future Publish Workshops

I hope to offer a couple of workshops over winter term and I’d like to ask you what topics you think might be most helpful. I’ll total up the responses and post them here and share them with the Publish Users Group. Once we have an idea what might be most useful we can talk about specifics and dates.

How Time Flies

The last post I put up was in June shortly after we rolled out what I like to call “The White Album.”

This past week we rolled out a new “skin” for the website that brought back the university colors and added two sliders to the homepage to better accommodate campus events.

The reviews have been very good and we’re now working through grammatical issues and working to freshen up the site’s voice.

Comments? Questions? Use the form field below, or send them directly to me.

As promised, i’m hard at work creating a cheat-sheet for some of the CSS trickery available with this new skin. Rather than a single sheet, it will be a series of pages available via this website that will (hopefully) provide a few handy tips and tricks to make your lives easier and the SOU website more easily searchable and a bit more colorful.

Excellent Feedback

This is great.

In just the past couple of days more comments have been submitted than in the past 15 months. Please, keep them coming.

Every single comment and suggestion is being read and shared with everybody associated with the web redesign project… and we’ve already begun to make some of the simpler changes that have been proposed.

This project will continue to evolve as more feedback comes and and is disseminated and discussed.

Thanks to everybody who has taken the time to respond.

The Reviews Have Begun!

Ok, while technically still in previews (or maybe “limited release” is more accurate), the new look is out.

There is a form for feedback, but that form pretty much asks specific questions. So if you’ve filled out the form, but would like to write up a longer more free-form review or opinion of the new look feel free to leave a comment to this post.

Love it? Hate it? Let’s get a discussion going… that’s how change begins.

One added note: please include a valid email address with all comments.

Looking for Guidance?

Part of the work Sockeye Creative performed was assembling a document outlining website guidelines. Keep in mind that a guidelines document is a starting point, not the ending point. In other words this document does not represent a mandatory roadmap that must be adhered to. Rather it offers a series of suggestions meant to encourage similar thinking when addressing online design.

It’s also important to note that the attached document talks about a site that has more built-in functionality than our current site. We do have all the templates mentioned in the guidelines document, but they are not automatically available.
