The Schneider Museum of Art is hosting a talk by SOU Professor Marlene Alt who is participating in the museum’s current faculty exhibition, Seeing 8. Professor Alt will explore over a decade of her installation work, and examine the ways she interprets and represents landscape on Thursday, January 31, at 5:30 PM in the Meese Auditorium at the Center for the Visual Arts on the Southern Oregon University (SOU) campus.
Marlene Alt teaches Sculpture at Southern Oregon University. Before coming to SOU she taught at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Alt’s artwork has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in such venues as the San Jose Museum of Art, the Nevada Museum of Art, the Portland Art Museum, the Yellowstone Art Museum, Northern Arizona University Museum, the North Dakota Museum of Art, the American Embassy, Togo, West Africa, the Portland Building, the Ohio University Art Gallery, Athens, Artemisia Gallery, Chicago, and the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, Grand Rapids. Alt has been the recipient of an Oregon Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship and was chosen to exhibit her work in the Oregon Biennial. Marlene Alt has also received invitations to make new work and to give lectures about her work at artist residencies in national and international venues such as the Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT, Sculpture Space, Utica, NY, the University of Texas, San Antonio, the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and the Bubec Sculpture Studio, Prague, Czech Republic, and most recently The Hungarian Multicultural Center in Budapest, Hungary.
Alt’s work is on view in the Schneider Museum of Art’s current exhibition, Seeing 8, which features work by the Southern Oregon University Department of Art Faculty. In addition to Marlene Alt, artists include David Bithell, Cody Bustamante, Miles Inada in collaboration with Ian Chachere, Peg Sjogren, Robin Strangfeld, Tracy Templeton and Visiting Professor Kathleen Murney. This exhibition runs until February 28, 2013 and can be viewed Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
