(Ashland, Ore.) — Southern Oregon University is making two spring term courses available to the public. Power and Influence and Social Media Design, both in the University’s Business Administration program, will not only be offered for credit to admitted SOU students, but will also be available at a special tuition rate for members of the community who are not admitted students to SOU.
“This is in direct response to the needs and desires of our local business community,” according SOU Professor Greg Jones, director of the University’s Division of Business, Communication and the Environment.
Power and Influence is designed to explore the nature of power and influence in a connected world. It will examine the latest findings in modern neuroscience and psychology related power and influence while teaching students to be more assertive in their day-to-day lives. “This is an experiential course,” Dr. Jones said, “so students should come prepared to take an honest look at how they present themselves to the world, to practice inside and outside of class, and to give and receive honest feedback toward making improvements.”
Power and Influence will meet Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Classes are scheduled each Friday from April 3 to May 1 on SOU’s main campus in Ashland.
Social Media Design will be offered Tuesdays at the University’s main campus in Ashland. It runs March 31 to June 9 and will meet from 6 to 8 p.m.
Social Media Design will teach students to measure social media marketing campaigns through Internet platforms, social website traffic, and social search engine optimization utilizing target interest, brand loyalty, and brand transparency. “This is a great tool for any small business owner or manager—or anyone involved in marketing or communications for a business of any size,” Dr. Jones said. “Students will learn to analyze and utilize the analytics provided by various social media and Web platforms, with an emphasis on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google Plus.”
The special tuition rate for community members is just $150 for each course. Admitted students taking the classes for credit will pay the standard tuition rate. Anyone interested in learning more or registering is encouraged to contact Connie Lynn at 541-552-6899 or via email at lynnc@sou.edu.
